2 weeks ago before today earthquake in Big Island ...Hawaii....

We were on the Islands Hopping trip..........Hawaii Cruise..........

A strong earthquake shook Hawaii early Sunday, jolting residents out of bed and causing a landslide that blocked a major highway. Hundreds of hotel guests and hospital patients were evacuated, and aftershocks kept the state on edge.

The quake hit at 7:07 a.m. local time, 10 miles north-northwest of Kailua Kona, a town on the west coast of Hawaii Island, also known as the Big Island

We visited the Volcano National Park....the most amazing destination that I ever have  visited.

Earthquakes in the 6.0 magnitude range are rare in the region, though they have happened before. The region more commonly sees temblors in the 3- and 4-magnitude range caused by volcanic activity.

The last Hawaiian earthquake this strong struck more than 20 years ago. The magnitude 6.7 caused heavy property damage on Hawaii Island and collapsed trails into a volcano in Hawaiian Volcanoes National Park on Nov. 16, 1983. A 6.1-magnitude quake also hit in 1989, according to the Earthquake Information Center.

This is a buildup from many volcanic earthquakes that they've had on the island," Waverly Person, a geophysicist with the U.S. Geological Survey's National Earthquake Information Center.

But we went walking around...lucky !!!! 

Gasing were releasing continouesly from the ground.....
The tour guide said ..this is not such a place you would want to be during the quake..

When the volcano erupt.....create....hole....big hole......

and when the volcano erupt at ocean front and create the same big hole....it makes.....a big bay....and a very healty bay for all marine life beacause ......

This "Curved" bay was declared a protected marine life conservation area and underwater park in 1967. This is THE BEST protected cove if you are new to scuba diving or snorkeling with a diverse population of marine life and a large, rich coral reef. Advanced snorkelers and divers can also enjoy the beauty of this bay as the reef extends throughout the cove into deeper water. The bay floor is actually the crater of an ancient volcano that flooded when the exterior wall collapsed and the ocean rushed in.

Lava Tube....
When volcano erupting ....the lava may force through lava tube ....flowing from mountain to the ocean which could be long distance in miles away.

Cruise ship took us at night time to see ..lava flow into the ocean.....so beautiful.....can't take pix...but stay life long in my memory....
When lava flow into ocean also create underwater lava tube....that make a worldknown lava tube cavern dive
